Question? Ask Student Central:

Our Best Answer How do I get special permission to take a class?

Some courses, especially internships and student teaching, will display the message “Department Consent Required” in the schedule. Some schools and departments may also restrict their classes to students who are officially enrolled in their programs. In these cases, the restriction will be listed in the Details section of the class search result.

You will need to contact the department offering the course to complete any required paperwork. If the department approves your eligibility, it will add the appropriate permission type in the registration system that allows you to register for the class.

You can view your class permissions by selecting “View Class Permissions” in the Student Center in One.IU. If you see “Add,” it means you can add a class regardless of enrollment limits. If you see “If Space,” that means you can only add the class if there are seats available.
